Mon - Chasha

Mon Chasha (Cultivator of Mind) has been conceived as a community-led tourism initiative for sustaining an orphanage in rural Bengal. This project promotes the concept of sustainability in development through an approach that is ecologically sensitive, economically viable and socially responsive. Imagined as a space that is quintessentially rural Bengal, the project draws strength from both tangible and intangible traits of the built and cultural heritage of the surrounding area. The implementation process was phased keeping in mind two things. One was the very low capital available for the first intervention and the second was building in mechanisms of periodic maintenance, additions and alterations so that there are continuous opportunities to engage with the surrounding community.

Mon Chasha has been running for years now and enjoys a unique position as one of the six must see tourism projects of West Bengal.
