Central University Campuses

The projects are interventions in three campuses - The College of Agriculture at Kyrdemkulai, College of Post-graduate Studies at Barapani and College of Fisheries at Lemburcherra.

Kyrdemkulai is a greenfield site on the mountains, and the site geography and contours led to the creation of a masterplan that adopts the typological features of a hill town. The main academic building is located on the ridge and overlooks the entire valley. A road branches off and accommodates all the other ancillary facilities 9hostels, staff quarters, guest house, etc). Barapani and Lemburcherra are projects of additions/alternations to existing campuses. Care has been taken in all these interventions to conform, and in cases also add to the campus feel of the universities.

The architecture adopted is heavily influences by local types, climate and materials. Sloping roofs are deep balconies have been used as elements to reduce the impact of heavy rainfall. The façade treatments reflect the traditional forms of timber construction. Certain formal interventions add to the presence and grandeur of key buildings such as the academic block at Kyrdemkulai, or the auditorium complex at Barapani. The architectural system is simple, robust and upgradable as and when required.
