National War Museum and Monument

The project is a conscious image reconstruction of Indian Military heritage and a celebration of our legacy on the most important axis of New Delhi - Vaijaypath and Hexagon. The War Museum takes reference from the Baroda House designed by E.F.Lutyens. It responds positively to its context and employs an appropriate architectural expression that is suited the image of new India as well as connected to its soul and spirit. Passive architecture is significantly adopted, even the existing trees on site are preserved and integrated within the building. The resultant proposal creates an interesting mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, creates a formidable site presence and present a visually dominant image.

The National War memorial located in the inner hexagon is a designed cultural landscape at the heart of the city. The proposal conceptualises this landscape to embody the soul, spirit and ethos of Bharat itself. The homage to the Indian military legacy is visualised through each of the three segments representing a section of the military service. Each segment consists of a highlighted spine, memorial garden and statues of some of the countries greatest military leaders. A commemorative wall with an interactive platform acknowledges and celebrates the countless sacrifices made by the military for the good of the country.
