Environmental Impact Study - Shimla

This is an urban design exercise initiated by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation of India (HIDCO), undertaken to assess the development issues of the hill town of Shimla and to ascertain the threshold and impacts of its development. To kickstart this process a detailed documentation has been undertaken. Within this documentation – the environmental stress areas have been mapped, conservation areas that lend Shimla it character has been identified. Together, this led to the establishment of certain planning parameters that could guide further development in a sensitive way. A new system of coding the built use was established and the guidelines for future physical development were prepared.
