Reshamkhana - Silk Filatures at Solina

The project intends to retrofit the existing (tangible and intangible assets) to promote, conserve the essential cultural ethos of Kashmir - imagined in the form of an institution that is based and operates out of the Solina Filatures. This is particularly important in light of the recent political development of abolishing of Article 370 that will have a major impact on the economy, culture and life of J&K. To cope with this probable impact a constructive approach has to be initiated. Main focus is on
A| Making Responsible Choices that foreground Solina’s spirit and strengthens the existing silk unit.
B| Adopting Sustainable Practices that provides a platform for continuing to promote traditional arts/ culture/ lifestyle through appropriate functional re-arrgements.
C | Operationalising a Systemic Management to Institutionalise design and craft traditions.

Incorporating these features, ‘Reshamkhana’ acts as an institution that is strongly influenced from historic markers, existing craft traditions, material practices and combines it with new programmes and functions to create long-term viability and resilience.
