Located within Kolkata’s historic Broadway Hotel, 1937 is an adaptive reuse project that transforms an underutilised heritage interior into a contemporary café while preserving the hotel’s iconic Art Deco character and vintage legacy.
The design focused on reviving the existing space through careful intervention rather than reconstruction. A new mezzanine level, sculptural staircase, exposed ceilings, custom lighting, and reconfigured interiors create a dynamic yet intimate environment that balances nostalgia with contemporary urban energy.
The project demonstrates how thoughtful adaptive reuse can reactivate heritage spaces—preserving architectural memory while creating vibrant new public experiences.
