Designed for a traditional Bengali family from Shantipur, this residence in New Town reinterprets the character of the Bengali home through a contemporary architectural language. Having previously designed multiple projects for the family, the house reflects a deep understanding of their lifestyle, cultural values, and aspirations.
Set on a rectangular south-facing plot, the design draws inspiration from familiar elements of traditional Bengali architecture, including large louvered windows, wrought-iron railings, and shaded corner verandahs. A finely crafted brick façade, enriched with recycled ornamental windows, gives the house a distinctive identity while celebrating local craftsmanship.
The residence is organised over split levels, with a double-height living room forming the social heart of the home. The kitchen and dining areas occupy an intermediate mezzanine level, while the upper floors accommodate private bedrooms and a dedicated puja space adjoining the roof terrace.
Balancing contemporary planning with traditional spatial values, the project creates a home that is both modern in expression and deeply rooted in Bengali cultural identity.
