About the book: This book is a journey into the concept of Temporality and Temporal Space that is triggered by the Bengali Cultural phenomenon of Durga Pujo in Kolkata. This Temporal space is mental construct that manifests at a particular locality (SPACE) during a sacred period of TIME and is nurtured by the BENGALI CULTURE.
The generated Temporal space is an example of a truly public place, one that is social and helps generate meanings in life. This temporality, is also a major factor of Kolkata's unique cityness.
About the author: Anjan Mitra is a practicing Architect and Urban Designer. His search for Responsible Design Practice takes him beyond the physicality of Architecture to the holistic experience of the built environment- it's tangible and intangible issues and their connect to the society. This journey started with his design practice- The Appropriate Alternative.
His work with the Durga Pujo of Kolkata spans over 20 years. It started with an explorative study 'Kolkatar Durgopujo' followed by a detailed account of Durga Pujo and its impact on the city of Kolkata -'KOLKATA O DURGAPUJO'.
