Built in the mid-1990s on a compact corner plot in Salt Lake, Kolkata, Adenium House is one of the early residential projects of the practice and reflects its foundational approach to space-making, materiality, and climate-responsive design.
Designed for a middle-class Bengali family, the house responds to its corner site through faceted forms and articulated edges that maximise natural light, cross-ventilation, and outward views. Balconies extend the living spaces in multiple directions, while interconnected interiors create a sense of openness within a modest footprint.
Exposed brickwork, natural materials, and traditional timber windows establish a warm and timeless architectural language rooted in regional sensibilities. The project demonstrates how thoughtful planning and simple materials can create a distinctive contemporary home.
Since 2023, the house has been revitalised as an Airbnb, extending the life of the architecture through adaptive reuse while preserving its original character.
