Designed for the national competition for the Indian Institute of Architects Headquarters at CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai, the proposal reimagines the institution as a symbol of responsible, future-oriented architecture. Rather than a conventional office building, it presents a clear architectural stance—promoting sustainability, contextual design, and the social responsibility of the profession.
The building is organised around a flexible structural framework with a central circulation spine and adaptable workspaces, allowing the form to evolve independently of the plan. The design is guided by three key principles: fostering a culture of reuse and resource efficiency, reaffirming climate-responsive planning and honest material expression, and grounding the architecture within its local context through meaningful spatial and architectural references.
Natural and recycled materials, jaalis, operable façades, green spaces, and solar energy systems are integrated to create a climate-responsive and environmentally responsible workplace.
The proposal demonstrates how architecture can become a catalyst for positive change, setting a benchmark for sustainable institutional design in India.
