Located within the ancestral estate of the historic Ghosh family in Tamluk, Kelomal Kalimandir is a 250-year-old temple that forms part of an important cluster of sacred heritage structures.
After decades of neglect, the temple had reached an advanced state of deterioration. Its restoration focused on stabilising and conserving the original architectural fabric through traditional materials, techniques, and skilled craftsmanship, ensuring authenticity at every stage.
Alongside conservation, carefully calibrated enhancements were introduced to improve functionality, including the insertion of an oculus that brings natural light into the garbhagriha, enriching the sacred spatial experience while remaining fully integrated with the temple’s historic character.
The project transformed the structure from near ruin into a renewed place of worship, restoring not only the temple itself but also the continuity of family traditions and cultural memory.
