Lake Kalibari is an ongoing exploration in reinterpreting temple architecture within the constraints of a dense urban context.
Commissioned by the Sree Sree 108 Karunamoyee Kalimata Mandir Trust, the project responds to limited land availability and contemporary statutory requirements by developing a new urban temple typology—one that adapts traditional spatial hierarchies and ritual sequences to a compact metropolitan setting while preserving spiritual integrity.
Developed through phased construction supported by community donations, the project has evolved continuously in dialogue with devotees, allowing its architectural language to grow organically over time.
A key focus has been the integration of Bengali cultural sensibilities through material choices, craftsmanship, artistic detailing, and careful collaboration with artisans, ensuring the temple remains deeply rooted in regional identity.
Spanning nearly two decades, Lake Kalibari reflects a sustained process of architectural stewardship, demonstrating how sacred spaces can evolve through patience, collaboration, and long-term vision.
