Located near Dantan, Mogholmari is one of eastern India’s significant Buddhist archaeological sites, revealing the remains of an ancient monastic settlement and offering important insights into the region’s religious and cultural history.
Following multiple phases of excavation between 2003 and 2014, the exposed remains required urgent conservation to address risks from weathering, vegetation growth, structural instability, and uncontrolled access.
The conservation strategy focused on site protection, structural stabilisation, controlled access, and improved visitor interpretation. Interventions included site preparation, vegetation removal, chemical treatment, grouting, strengthening of fragile sections, and the introduction of protective infrastructure such as boundary walls, entry gates, and illumination systems.
The project balances archaeological conservation with public accessibility, ensuring that Mogholmari’s heritage value is preserved while supporting future research, interpretation, and educational engagement.
