Conceived for the reimagination of the historic Mullassery Canal, the proposal transforms a neglected urban waterway into a vibrant public realm that celebrates Kochi's layered history, culture, and waterfront identity. Envisioned as a Special Cultural District, the project integrates ecological restoration, heritage conservation, and place-making to create an inclusive and sustainable urban destination.
The proposal combines canal restoration with sensitive retrofitting of surrounding infrastructure, improving water quality, reconnecting historic waterways, and encouraging adaptive reuse of the existing urban fabric. New public spaces, pedestrian-friendly streets, and culturally responsive architectural inserts strengthen the relationship between the canal and the city while protecting Kochi's built, natural, and intangible heritage.
Designed as a flexible and experiential public realm, Mullassery Canal Mile promotes walkability, community participation, cultural activities, and heritage-led regeneration.
