Architect Anjan Mitra shared his perspectives from his book Durga Pujo and the City of Kolkata.
This book is a journey into the concept of Temporality and Temporal Space that is triggered by the Bengali Cultural phenomenon of Durga Pujo in Kolkata. This Temporal Space is mental construct that manifests at a particular locality (SPACE) during a sacred period of TIME and is nurtured by the BENGALI CULTURE. The generated Temporal space is an example of a truly public place, one that is social and helps generate meanings in life. This temporality is also a major factor of Kolkata's unique cityness.
