Conceived as a key social infrastructure component within the Shristinagar township, Sri Hari Global School was developed for Srishti Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. as an educational institution designed to strengthen the township’s connection with the wider city while enhancing its overall liveability.
The project was envisioned as a pilot model for future educational developments across SIDCL townships in India.
Guided by the vision of Sri Hari, the school was conceived around the belief that future-ready education must balance modern pedagogy with a strong grounding in Indian ethos, values, and cultural understanding.
The architectural response therefore seeks to create an environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, and collective learning while fostering an awareness of nature, community, and shared responsibility.
Rejecting the conventional compact double-loaded corridor system commonly associated with institutional buildings, the project adopts a low-rise courtyard-based typology inspired by traditional Indian spatial organisation.
This planning strategy creates a more open, visually connected, and humane learning environment. It enables effective supervision without overt control, increases opportunities for spontaneous interaction, and fosters a stronger sense of community among students.
Daylighting strategies and passive environmental design principles are integral to the project, reducing energy demand while creating naturally lit and thermally comfortable learning spaces.
The architectural language draws inspiration from traditional Indian Buddhist architecture, evoking a sense of rootedness, calm, and disciplined spatial order.
This reference supports the school’s larger educational philosophy by creating an environment that is both contemplative and conducive to focused learning.
The success of the Asansol campus has led to the development of a second school based on similar principles in Guwahati.
The project demonstrates how educational architecture can meaningfully combine cultural grounding, environmental responsiveness, and contemporary learning needs.
