Located on Badridas Temple Street in the heart of North Kolkata, The Kolkata Stop is the sensitive transformation of a compact apartment within a residential building into a curated Airbnb experience. The project demonstrates how modest interventions can unlock the potential of existing spaces while celebrating the character of old Kolkata.
The two-bedroom apartment was carefully reconfigured to improve functionality, introducing a new kitchen and a modern shared bathroom while creating an open living and dining space that enhances the sense of openness and comfort. The two bedrooms—one at the main level and the other on the existing mezzanine—offer a compact yet efficient layout suited to contemporary hospitality.
The interiors embrace a nostalgic aesthetic through the use of antique and repurposed furniture, vintage artefacts, timber screens, and carefully curated Kolkata memorabilia, creating an authentic experience rooted in the city's architectural and cultural heritage.
The project illustrates how thoughtful adaptive reuse can transform historic interiors into meaningful contemporary spaces while preserving their unique identity and sense of place.
