Uttor Kolkata is the adaptive transformation of a former residence in Salt Lake City into a vibrant hospitality and cultural destination inspired by the architectural character of old North Kolkata.
The project involved strategic retrofitting of the existing structure, including spatial expansion, improved circulation through a new staircase and elevator, and interventions that enhanced functionality while retaining the building’s core identity.
A defining feature is the incorporation of salvaged architectural elements—louvered windows, doors, railings, and period details—that reinterpret familiar Bengali social spaces within a contemporary public setting. The result is a sustainable transformation that balances nostalgia with modern urban use.
Now home to The Verandah Café, the project creates a dialogue between heritage, memory, and contemporary city life.
